I finally purchased the Polar FT7 heart rate monitor, which is a slightly more advanced version of the FT4. They both read your heart rate, tracks your calorie burn, and time your workout until you manually stop it.The only real difference is the Data Transfer option, and that the FT7 holds 99 sessions, while the FT4 only holds 10.

Also, the FT7 has the new Energy Pointer, which tells if your workouts are leaning more towards fat burning, or improving fitness.

Verdict: I love it! It adds a little boost of motivation to my workouts, and helps remind me to keep my heart rate up while strength training.

Since I’m not a girly girl when it comes to workout attire, the pink and red women’s options were not my style. Instead, I chose the men’s black and silver design, which can also be used by females since it has a female setting, so don’t let the website fool you.

Compared to the heart rate monitor on a piece of cardio equipment, both readings were pretty spot on. However in terms of calorie burn, the machine estimated about 100 calories more than what my HRM read.


I’ve always known this to be true, but it’s cool to compare and see how much work your body is really doing, and also how much it is improving.

Longing for Oolong

Dr. Oz has raved about the benefits of Oolong Tea many times on his show, so when I came across it this weekend while browsing the aisles in Marshall’s, I threw it in my cart without hesitation.

This is why I love Marshall’s… So many hidden gems.

Oolong Tea
“It’s not black tea or green tea, but the combo of the two that gives this tea its metabolic benefits. You get the power of the caffeine and antioxidants, which have been shown to increase post-drinking caloric burn by about 5% for an hour. I swapped my usual black coffee this morning for cup of Oolong, and I couldn’t help but notice the feeling of natural alertness that it left me with. Minus the jitters.


Mixed with a packet of Stevia in the Raw, it was slightly sweet, wonderfully soothing, and tamed my appetite to a cat’s meow versus an angry lion’s roar.

My stomach can be very demanding when it’s hungry. 

By the time lunch rolled around, I was ready to eat.  


(green beans mixed with fresh salsa and balsamic vinaigrette, alongside a 4 egg white omelet with goat cheese and cucumbers.

This tea is a keeper, and I will definitely be adding a cup a day to my routine. Thank you Marshall’s🙂

Today’s Workout

Arc Trainer: 20 Minutes

Weights: 15 reps each, slow and controlled with proper form

  • Bent over Dumbbell Row
  • Push-up
  • Dumbbell Shoulder Press
  • Squat

rest for 1 minute and repeat for 20 minutes

Stair Mill: 10 minutes.




Chocolate Sunwarrior Protein powder, mixed with 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk, water and ice. Topped with 1/4 cup Kashi GOLEAN!

I Like It Raw

I’ve recently converted to Raw Almond Butter over Roasted Almond Butter.






Though it’s a personal preference, I found in terms of texture and taste, Raw AB has my vote.

I love the grindy (is that a word?) and thick texture of the butter, along with the natural flavor that the almonds possess.

From the MaraNatha Website:

  • Raw nut butter products are not subjected to treatment or heat prior to the grinding process. These items are often preferred by people who are looking for minimally processed food that is “as close to Nature” as possible.
  • Roasted nut butters are baked or heated to produce a desired flavor and/or color prior to grinding. Some manufacturers use oil in the roasting process

Try it out and see if you like it!

  • 1/3 C oats

It’s all Greek to Me.

My heart almost skipped a beat when I saw my version of Heaven on a stick sitting in my grocer’s freezer.

As you know, I have been making Frozen Yogurt Bowl breakfasts for quite some time now, so I was more than happy to give this satisfying yet guilt free treat a permanent home in my own freezer

(I should have patented this idea when I had the chance!)

Barre3 Booty

What started as a beautiful sunny day, has transformed into gloomy gray skies yet again.


But, on a good note, I woke this morning with sore legs,glute’s and abs from a new workout I tried last night. I love the feeling of achievement that comes along with sore muscles!

Due to yesterdays snow appearance, I decided some strength training and stretching would do me good. I came across the new fitness craze, Barre3, on Exercise TV and tried it out. It was different from what I expected, but in a good way.

Barre3 is a combination of Yoga flexibility, Pilates Strength, and Ballet barre work. The “3” stands for Balance, Practice and Life, and is designed to create a long, lean body while improving posture and grace.

Because most people do not own a ballet barre, the instructor uses a chair for balance and support. The simple yet effective movements are easy to follow and I could feel my stabilizing muscles working hard through each pulsing rep.

Although I did not sweat too much, by the end of the workout my legs were shaking , and my arms and abs were fatigued. I felt a release of tension in my muscles and strong from within.

I recommend this workout for anyone who is a lover of yoga, and looking to try something new and different.

Plyo-Card Routine

Tis is a workout routine that does not involve traveling to the gym, or using any form of equipment other than your own beautiful body. It’s called “Plyo Cards” and I discovered it through one of my favorite female trainers/body builders, Jamie Eason.

On a piece of  paper,  write the following exercises in a vertical line:

  • Squat Jumps
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Alternating Lunges
  •  High Knees
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Butt Kicks
  • Push Ups
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Pike Kicks (hold hands out at Eye level and kick your feet up to touch your hands while crunching forward)
  • Bike crunches

If you have a deck of cards,apply the following amounts

  • A King, Queen and Jack=10 reps
  • Ace and Joker= 1-10 reps. Your choice, but don’t slack!

Shuffle the deck and flip 3 cards over. Tally the total amount, and apply it to the first exercise.


You flip a King of hearts (10), a 2 of diamonds and a 9 of clubs. 10+2+9=21. That means…21 Squat Jumps.

Flip again;  6 of spades, 8 of hearts, Jack of diamonds(I’ll make it worth 10)  6+8+10= 24 ….  24 Jumping Jacks.

Flip again; Ace of diamonds (I’ll make it worth 3), 5 of spades, Queen of clubs.        3+5+10= 18….18 Alternating Lunges

Continue this until you have completed each exercise on your list once. Rest 1-2 minutes, and perform another set. If you want to be a real champion, add a 3rd set. Keep your heart rate up by rapidly flowing from one exercise to the next.

If you do not have a deck of cards available, do 3 sets of 15 reps for each exercise.

There is no reason why you should slack on your workout if a gym is not available. Use this routine to keep yourself in check during family vacations, snow days, business trips, or if the hubby takes the car and leaves you stranded!
