Most Improved Weather and an Arm Burner

The humidity in the air has finally broke, thanks to that crazy storm we had yesterday.

I mean, I love a good thunderstorm, but I could do without golf ball sized hail and 300-500 bolts of lightning per minute, which is what we experienced North of Boston.

It was intense, and left my street flooded all afternoon.

Luckily today was a huge improvement,winning the award for;

“Most Improved Weather”.

I started my morning off with a cup of hot water with lemon before drinking my usual coffee.

IMG_1001

We wake in a state of dehydration, so drinking water first thing is very important. It jump starts your metabolism, and helps your body prepare for the day ahead.

And this particular combination is very cleansing as well.

Breakfast was a Blueberry Muffin Cake, eaten cool from the fridge.

IMG_1006IMG_1007

  • 2 Tbsp Organic Coconut Flour
  • 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 drop liquid Stevia
  • 3/4 cup Liquid All Whites
  • 1/2 thinly sliced banana
  • 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup water

I had planned on an arm workout yesterday, but due to flooding and traffic jams, I switched it to today.

Slow and controlled, focus on your breathing and correct form

  • Assisted Dips: 4×10
  • Assisted Pull ups: 4×10
  • Tricep Cable Pushdown with rope: 3×12
  • Bicep Cable Curl with rope : 3×12

-Ending with a 15 minute jog on the treadmill and some stretching.

It is so so so important to fuel your body both before, and after your workouts.

If you have no food in your belly, your body will naturally turn to your muscles for energy, eating them away and hindering your progress.

This is not what you want!

You’ve spent time building those muscles, protecting your bones, and creating a fit, toned physique. Don’t waste your time by neglecting to eat before you train.

A carb, healthy fat, and some protein is the way to go.

You will feel stronger, last longer, and get an overall better workout if you EAT EAT EAT! Plus, you will get better results, which is what we all want, right?

My pre-workout snack consisted of plain Greek yogurt mixed with cinnamon and raw almond butter, spread onto a gluten free rice cake.

IMG_0999IMG_0998

Feed your muscles. Feel energized. Get a great workout.

It’s that simple.

Now go work those gorgeous legs of yours Smile

FULL time Trainer

I am a Personal trainer who cannot say “no” to the smell of a burger, or desserts that look like this.

IMG_0943IMG_0942

Who could say no to that!?

Not me Smile

If you workout regularly and eat healthy 90% of the time like I do, then you shouldn’t feel guilty when you’ve eaten too much, or “cheated” on your diet.

What’s done is done, don’t dwell on it. Today is a new day to start fresh.

Get yourself back on track by eating clean, and making it a priority to get your workout inBy the end of the day, you will forget all about that oh so delicious slice of pie Smile.

Unless it’s still in your fridge, and in that case, throw it away immediately!

Gorgeous

We headed over to the lake in Wakefield yesterday evening to walk around, listen to music and watch the fireworks. .

IMG_0949IMG_0951

They ended just as a thunderstorm began to roll in at a rapid pace. It was cool to watch a battle unfold between the colorful explosions and crazy zig-zaging lightning in the sky.

Unsafe..but cool

Matt and I were on his motorcycle, and I luckily only got pelted in the face with a few quarter sized rain drops on the way home.

No biggieSmile

This morning’s breakfast was similar to yesterday’s “Crumbled blueberry muffin”, however  this time I decided to scramble it at the end to make the consistency a bit more “oatmeal-ish”

  • 1.5 Tbsp organic coconut flour
  • 3/4 cup liquid egg whites
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 sliced banana
  • blueberries
  • cinnamon and a few drops of liquid Stevia

cooked for 5 minutes in the microwave and scrambled with a spoon at the end.

Speaking of breakfast, has anyone heard the news about brands such as Kashi, Barbara’s Bakery Puffins and Whole Foods 365 cereals containing high levels of GMO’s?

Read more about it here.

What are your thoughts on this?

I’ll admit that I am disappointed. Kashi GoLean Original is one of my favorite cereals, along with my new found love of Peanut Butter Puffins. I’m hoping to hear more about this issue along with how these brands are responding.

Huffing and Puffing for Stuffing

With Thanksgiving only a week away, fitness center’s nationwide are suddenly packed with unfamiliar faces trying to lose 5 pounds before adding it back on by “Black Friday”

Look familiar?

Instead of exercising as an excuse to eat more stuffing, how about doing it so you’ll be able to spend many more holidays with your family and friends in the future? Exercise and eating healthy is the most powerful gift you can give to your body, and with the holidays quickly approaching, it’s the perfect time to show yourself some love.

Let me stress that I’m no superhero when it comes to temptation. I fully intend on enjoying every delicious bite of food that fills my plate, and maybe even go back for seconds. The main goal here is to maintain control, weigh out our options, and realize that this is not the last meal we will ever eat.

Leftovers will be available by the boatload.

Throughout the next month and a half (and the rest of your life), stick to your workout routine and healthy eating habits. This leaves wiggle room to enjoy other not so healthy foods in moderation.

Life goes on after the holiday season, and you want to start off the new year 10 weeks healthier, not 10 pounds heavier.

Thirsty Thursday {would you like some cheese with that wine?}

What do you think? I’ll bring the bandanas Smile

OK, shall we get to drinkin?

Let’s start with some of my favorite Red Wines.

Pinot Noir

Light- Medium bodied.Tastes of deep red fruits, and spice. Pairs well with Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, along with various cheeses and gamey meats.

Merlot

A lighter wine that tastes of blackberries, cherries, plums and a hint of black pepper. Goes well with most foods, but pairs perfectly with grilled meats, pastas and salads. Mixes well with Cabernets.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Dry, Medium to Full Bodied, Tastes of plum. blueberry, blackberry, cherry, vanilla, and warm spices. Pairs well with red sauces, meat, strong cheese and dark chocolate.

Cabernet Franc

Med-Full bodied. Tastes of berries and plum. Pairs well with Mediterranean cuisine, pastas and poultry.

Zinfandel

Low-Moderate acidity. Tastes of black cherries and berries, much like the flavor of Jam, with a hint of spice. Pairs well with pizza (tomatoes and cheese), chocolate. pasta and red/white meats.

Most of the time, red wines put me to sleep or leave me with a headache in the morning. I much rather prefer a light, crisp, citrus flavored wine.

Onto the Whites!

Pinot Grigio

Dry, Acidic. Tastes of  crisp lemon and citrus . Pairs well with seafood, white meats and light pasta dishes. Don’t eat with citrusy sauces.

Chardonnay

Full bodied, acidic. Tastes of lemon, grapefruit, melon, and vanilla.Pairs well with chicken and fish.

Riesling

Light-Med bodied, Acidic. Tastes of apples, apricots, peaches, and lemons. Pair with white meats and seafood.

Sauvignon Blanc

Crisp and acidic. Tastes of sour apples, pears, mango and melon. Pairs well with seafood, poultry, cheese and salad.

I am definitely a white wine girl, but an occasional glass of red is always a nice change.

I’m thinking this night calls for some frozen grapes, sharp cheeses, dark chocolate and a glass of vino.

Cheers to being a wine snob! Winking smile
