That’s What I Love About Sunday.

The weather today is glorious, and what Sunday afternoons are made of; windows open, natural lighting, and a comforting candle to fill the room with it’s invisible embrace.

Spiced pumpkin floated through my apartment 5 minutes after lighting the wooden wick, and I am obsessed with it’s strong scent and crackling features.

It is heavenly.

Breakfast was a bowl of egg white oats, ground flax, sliced banana, blueberries and cinnamon.

Perfect fuel for tackling the wild beasts that inhabit the aisles of Stop & Shop on a Sunday morning.

They swerve around you in the parking lot, charge and leap towards the ticket dispenser at the deli, and sneakily stare as you proceed through self checkout.

It’s quite a scene, but the fridge must be filled.

Matt’s side. My side.

At least I got him eating organic yogurt Smile

After my grocery store safari and the daunting task of putting everything away, I needed a small snack to hold me over till lunch.

Today is my day off from the gym, but my appetite is anything but tamed

Grape tomato meet cottage cheese. Cottage cheese, meet grape tomato.

It’s important to keep fueling your muscles, even on rest days.

Don’t listen to that voice that tells you to eat less because your moving less. Eat as you normally eat, snack as you normally snack, and go about your day.

This is how we repair and change our body. It needs rest, just as we need sleep.

While relaxing last night, I finally finished Insurgent, and I cannot wait for the third book to come out.

If you loved The Hunger Games, you will love love love the Divergent and Insurgent. They are full of suspense from start to finish.

Well, this gorgeous is day is creeping by, and we have the Pat’s game and Sunday dinner to look forward too.

Simply the best.

Bike Rides and Burning Abs

Matt and I just got in from a long, hot day on the bike.

IMG_0539

We went out for breakfast, took a drive to Salem Willows, and saw a whole bunch of new frozen yogurt places in the our area that I can’t wait to try.

Matt had to go on a service call early this morning, so while he did that, I fit in a workout until he was done.

Cardio: 40 minutes on the Arc Trainer, increasing the incline and resistance every 5 minutes.

Followed by this AB circuit that I made up as I went along, and I can’t wait for you guys to try it!

Screamin’ ABs

  • 1 minute: Full Body Crunch
  • 1 minute: Alternating Ankle Taps (Legs straight up towards ceiling, keeping abs engaged while alternating taps on the outsides of your ankles)
  • 1 minute: Alternating Jack Knife

(To make the move harder, omit the medicine ball, and leave both legs about an inch off of the ground, alternating lifting your chest towards your knee)

  • 30 seconds: Plank Knee Crossovers
  • 30 seconds:  In and Outs

Rest 1 minute and repeat 3-5x

Have fun Smile

My parents are away this weekend, so that means no “Pasta Sunday” dinner. Instead, Matt and I will be ordering take out, watching movies, and relaxing for the night.

Sounds good to me!

Of course, some workouts were thrown into the mix as well. Find the time and get it done.

By the way!!

Have you all heard about the Frozen decathlon sponsored by Stonyfield Organic, which will begin on July 26th? It will consist of two flavors, Peach Mango and Superfruits, competing against each other through 10 events which require YOUR votes!

Each event has a team leader, and I have been chosen to represent team Peach Mango for the 11th event against my opponent, “The Healthy Runner”, of team SuperFruits.

On the day of my event, which I will keep you informed on (I’m guessing around mid-late August), head on over to the decathlon page and vote for my team, Peach Mango.

When you do vote, you will receive a $1.00 off coupon towards a pint of Frozen Oikos, and each additional time you vote, you increase your chances at winning the Grand Prize!

Which is a good one

Each event lasts for three days and if you love Greek yogurt as much as I do, then vote, vote, vote during my event!

Keep a lookout for my cue, and also visit their Facebook page for more information.

xoxo

Post breakfast, Matt and I had to shoot over to one of his jobs around the corner.

Welcome to the life of an Electrician’s Girlfriend

My Job: Wait in the work van, and don’t get towed.

Love when my fridge is full :)

It’s been a successful Sunday so far, and since it’s my rest day, I’m parking it on the couch with a blanket, a movie, and cup of Hazelnut coffee with cinnamon and Stevia in the raw.

Perfection.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday Smile

Work {Out} side the Box

Yesterday was an amazing day.

We packed up our snowboards, threw on some long johns, and spent the day under the warm sun on Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA.

Sitting on the chairlift, floating high above the mountain brings such a sense of peace and calmness that captivates your entire body.

The weather was perfect, however the conditions on the slopes were bit icy due to the lack of snow this year. The man made stuff left for a severely sore tail bone after one good tumble.

You know that egg shaped bump that appears after you hit your head? Well, I think I have one on the left side of my butt/hip from when I hit an icy patch.

Battle wound is what I say. At least I got a nice tan Smile

Following our last run, we wound down in the lounge with some drinks and live music.

Music, wine and a fireplace. My kind of environment.

After a while, our bodies began screaming for a hot shower and a warm clothes. We hopped in the car and headed home to enjoy a comforting dinner in front of the TV, buried under a bundle of thick blankets.

A steaming bowl of veggie egg white soup.

It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. We had a blast, and plan to go again before the winter ends.

Outdoor activities, such as skiing and snowboarding, are amazing workouts that require strength, balance and endurance. Your legs are in a squatting position, while your upper body is constantly contracting to maneuver the board/skis in the direction you need to go.

It is the ultimate total body workout, and the best part is that you don’t even realize what a great workout you are getting because you are having so much fun!

Be a kid again and find an activity that you love to do.

Try jump roping, going on a hike or bike ride, ice skating or rollerblading, or even a friendly game of beach volleyball or soccer. These are great ways to stay active throughout the week, all while having fun.

As for Matt and I, our next venture will be the annual Ice Fishing Tournament on Lake Winnipesaukee in two weeks!

I can’t wait! It is such a good time.

Explore the world around you and see what it has to offer. Challenge yourself, try new things and feel a sense of empowerment after each venture.

Live freely. Look outside the box.

Speaking of breakfast, has anyone heard the news about brands such as Kashi, Barbara’s Bakery Puffins and Whole Foods 365 cereals containing high levels of GMO’s?

Read more about it here.

What are your thoughts on this?

I’ll admit that I am disappointed. Kashi GoLean Original is one of my favorite cereals, along with my new found love of Peanut Butter Puffins. I’m hoping to hear more about this issue along with how these brands are responding.
