Unplugging in Paradise

Sometimes we need to take a step away for a while and just “Live”.

Live without any kind of social media or documentation, other than a digital camera to capture every memory to share when we return.

Pinned Image

No, I am not giving up blogging. It’s become too much a part of my life.

Pinned Image

I am, however, “unplugging” for a week while my family and I vacation on my favorite happy island.

Pinned Image

Aruba!

Pinned ImagePinned Image

I cannot wait to get on that beach!

Although I would love to blog about my daily excursions, dining destinations and night time festivities, which I know I will have the urge to do, I instead want to focus on being in the moment.

Snapping pictures, swimming in the clear blue water, sitting at the dock bar, and overall, enjoying every single second of my time away.

Pinned Image

No social media. No interruptions.

Just me, my family, tropical drinks and the hot Aruban sun.

Pinned Image

I promise to take plenty of pictures to share with you when I get back.

And as always, have a safe, happy and healthy end of April.

Te aworo!!! (that means “see you later” in Papiamento)

Vacation Procrastination

Today shall be crazy.

Packing, cleaning, errands…I’m such a procrastinator.

But that’s what super strong coffee is for Smile

IMG_0596

I headed to the gym bright and early, sweated all over the arc trainer, and fit in some back, bi’s and tri’s.

IMG_0594

Arc Trainer- 60 minutes: increasing incline and resistance every 5 minutes for 30 minutes, then decreasing incline and resistance for the next 30 minutes

Due to the rain, and the people who suddenly lose all driving ability when a droplet hits the ground, it took me a good 35 minutes to get home.

If only cars could fly…

Jenna Jetson. I like it.

When I finally made it home, I quickly ate breakfast, chugged some water, and am now ready to battle the busy day ahead

I Would Run to You

I LOVE the new Nike commercial.

The song has literally been stuck in my head all morning, and I think that many couple’s can relate to the comedic storyline.

Matt has always told me that he would run across the country if I ever needed him, but let’s face it, I think I would be the one to make it there first.

Just kidding Winking smile

Going for a run today, then starting day 1 of packing for our trip!!

Enjoy your Saturday! xoxo

Rice Cake Confession

I switched up my Omega-3′s this morning and used ground flaxseed in my oats instead of chia seeds.

IMG_0589

I loved the creamy texture that it created, and I may like this version better.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1 Tbsp ground flax
  • cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup water

set in fridge overnight, and in the morning…

  • add a splash of water and heat for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup liquid egg whites and heat again for another 3 minutes or until eggs have cooked.
  • Top with Blueberries.

So…I know it’s a cliché that I, a personal trainer, love rice cakes

They are the perfect base for a pre/post workout snack, and there are so many different ways to dress them up.

You’ve already seen my version with Chocolate Protein spread…

IMG_0568

  • 1 scoop chocolate sun warrior
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsps. water (or more depending on your thickness preference)

And as for today, I used

  • 1/2 cup no salt added cottage cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar free grape jam
  • 1/4 sliced frozen banana

IMG_0586

It’s satisfying, tastes great, and the texture combinations are out of this world.

Some other rice cake concoctions.

  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Cottage Cheggs (hard boiled egg whites mixed with cottage cheese)
  • Peanut butter and sliced apple with cinnamon
  • Albacore Tuna mixed with avocado
  • Greek yogurt and salsa
  • Homemade chicken or tuna salad
  • Hummus and sliced tomato with sprouts
  • Tzatziki and canned wild Alaskan salmon.
  • Mashed banana and almond butter with cinnamon
  • Baba Ghanoush and sliced cucumber

The creations are endless and delicious.

I ate my rice cake after today’s workout, which was another 3.5 mile run around the lake, and ended with a new park bench workout that I put together in my head as I ran.

IMG_0584

IMG_0585

Go through the list 3x, 15 reps per exercise

  • Step ups leading with right leg (Use the leg on the bench to lift your body off of the ground)
  • Step ups leading with left leg
  • Decline Push up with feet on bench
  • AB Leg Lifts
  • Tricep Dips
  • Squats.

A Date with Stairs

Oh Stairmaster.

Pinned Image

Our love/hate relationship is one of my favorites.

I paid it a visit today after breakfast, and per usual, I got my butt kicked.

IMG_0566IMG_0161

Egg White Chia Oats with blueberries and 1/2 a grapefruit

I completed a 35 minute climb at Level 9, while listening to David Guetta’s station on Pandora Radio. This is mandatory in getting me through this tortuous sweat session.

IMG_0567

By the end of my 35 minutes, my butt was tight and my shirt was soaked. I ended with a light 10 minutes on the elliptical and a quick AB routine

AB Workout

Repeat 3-4x

  • 30 second low plank
  • 15 high plank oblique cross overs
  • 15 mountain climbers
  • 30 second low plank

Stretch.

When I arrived home, I got creative with my post workout snack.

IMG_0568

  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior Protein powder
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsp water

spread on an unsalted rice cake, and top with fresh blueberries and strawberries.

Um..YUM!

I may have just created my new favorite snack.

And for a daily dose of Yogi…

IMG_0569

stay happy, my friends.

BBQ in April

The cool April air arrived this morning, and I drank my Lemon-Ginger tea on my way to train a client.

IMG_0565

I needed it after our family BBQ last night.

April heat..what a tease.

Satur-Date {Legal Seafoods}

I’ll make this post short and sweet because it’s too beautiful out to be sitting inside on the computer.

And I’d rather be sitting on the back of Matt’s Harley with the wind blowing in my face Smile

IMG_0539

Last night, Matt and I spent our “Satur-Date” at Legal Seafoods in Boston’s Long Wharf, and the weather was perfect for a stroll through the city.

Per usual, we headed straight to the bar and ordered a Citron Vodka Soda and a Bud Light bottle.

IMG_0540IMG_0541

After chatting with the Bartender and some other eaters, we both knew exactly what we wanted to order for our appetizer.

The Legal Experience

IMG_0542

Blackened raw tuna sashimi with seaweed and ginger, Jumbo shrimp cocktail, Crab cakes, and Steamed seafood wontons.

Though this dish was almost $30, it was definitely money well spent.

Along with another round of drinks, we each ordered the Grilled Cajun salmon from the “make your own entrée” menu. As sides, I opted for brown rice and green beans, while Matt chose a baked potato and jalapeno cheddar polenta, which tasted just like Queso dip.

Delicious!

IMG_0543

But the best part of the entire meal was dessert.

If you are a chocoholic like me, you would fall off your chair after one bite of this rich and decadent “Warm Chocolate Pudding Cake”, served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and a subtle coconut cookie.

IMG_0544

The combination of warm chocolate, cool and creamy ice cream, and a crumbly coconut cookie was out of this world.

Matt and I didn’t speak the entire time we shared this heavenly dessert. We even considered ordering another, but then realized that our tropical vacation is less than a week away, so it was best to stop after one plate.

BUT PLEASE ORDER THIS THE NEXT TIME YOU GO!

There is nothing wrong with bonding over a delicious a dessert every once in awhile :)

While Matt was at work this morning, I tackled this workout and followed it up with an ice cold green smoothie.

  • 1 scoop chocolate Sunwarrior
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 6 frozen strawberries,
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen spinach
  • water and ice

Tastes so good on a warm day Smile

Now get outside and enjoy yourselves! xoxo

Sweat Therapy

I’m still obsessed with my daily Yogi tea messages, and I have every intention of sharing the one’s that I find meaningful to my life, and maybe to your’s as well.

It’s my blog, and I can do what I want.

IMG_0535

I’ve been alternating between the Healthy Fasting, and Lemon Ginger tea in place of my usual morning coffee

Because I eat a lot of vegetables, I occasionally suffer from indigestion, bloating and plenty of burping.

Fiber = Gassy. Classy.

I find that sipping these first thing, as well as after eating, helps to move things along a bit better.

I drank my tea in the car this morning on the way to the gym, and then headed straight to the weights for a quick arm workout.

IMG_0536

  • 3 sets of 12: Front Shoulder Raises, Lateral Raises, and Shoulder Press
  • 3 sets of 15: Alternating Bicep Curls on incline bench
  • 3 sets of 15: Triceps Extension

Once my friend/client arrived, we hopped on the Arc Trainer for a good hour of sweat therapy.

I always say that “sweating should be thought of as an emotional cleanse”.

Sweat out any stressors, worries, anger, frustration or sadness that lurks within you, and at the end, wipe it all away with your towel.

Pinned Image

Following cardio, we ended with some quick abs, push-ups and stretching before heading home for post-workout breakfast.

Blueberry Banana Egg white Oatmeal with Chia Seeds

IMG_0537

and some black coffee with Stevia in the Raw.

IMG_0538

Hey, I didn’t say I was cutting out coffee completely :)

It’s going to be a gorgeous weekend and I’ve already seen a plethora of runners taking advantage of the sunshine and prepping for their run on Monday.

I would love to be on the sidelines cheering them on with an ice cold drink in my hand (it is one of the biggest drinking days here in Boston), but unfortunately I’ll be at work watching it on television.

Marathon Monday is looking HOT. 88 degrees…yikes!

Well I can’t stand to be inside any longer, so I’m off to seize the day. Matt and I are taking his bike out this afternoon, and later planning our usual Satur-Date at an undecided location.

I think I’m feeling a good piece of fish..or sushi?

We’ll see where we end up. Have a great Saturday! xoxo

Dancing and Ganoushing

This morning’s horoscope was right on the money with where I’m at in my life right now.

IMG_0531

And it’s true. If we want something bad enough, then we have to be willing to work for it.

That’s about as obvious as what I had for breakfast

IMG_0532

Greek yogurt, 1/2 banana, blueberries and Kashi GOLean! with cinnamon

Friday’s make me want to dance, to this song in particular, which I’m currently obsessed with.

I had it playing on repeat during my cardio workout and I definitely belted out a few notes in-between elliptical sprints.

Elliptical HIIT

5 minute warm up: Level 4, moderate pace

  • 5-6: Level 8, Fast Feet
  • 6-7.30: Level 6, Recover
  • 7:30-8:30: Level 8, Fast Feet
  • 8:30-10: Level 6, Recover

Repeat sequence for a total of 20 minutes

5 minute cool down: Level 4, moderate pace

ABs

  • 12 Stability Ball Jackknife
  • 12 Stability Ball Roll Outs
  • 25 Stability Ball Crunches

Repeat 3x

Stretch.

I picked up some Babe Ghannouj this afternoon to add to my snacks, salads and sandwich wraps.

IMG_0533

If you are not familiar with Baby Ghannouj (or Baba Ganoush) it’s similar to hummus, except the base is made with eggplant instead of chickpeas.

It’s actually quite easy to make, and I plan on trying it out soon

As for today, I mixed some Yorgo’s into my chopped vegetable salad with two crumbled turkey meatloaf muffins.

IMG_0534IMG_0529

These muffins are such lifesavers when you’re in a time crunch and need an on the go healthy meal.

I made mine with garlic, black pepper, cumin, onion, celery and shredded carrots.

IMG_0528

Well, I am literally in a time crunch. Full belly and all!

Enjoy the rest of your Friday! xoxo
